Our team is comprised of physical therapists specializing in performing arts medicine and active musicians. With music degrees from The Eastman School of Music & Indiana University, and Physical Therapy credentials from Boston University & Daemen College, our team brings the best of both industries to this unique collaboration. This project is made possible by post-graduate internship funding from the Arts Leadership Program at The Eastman School of Music.
Susanne Callan-Harris | PT, MS, CLT holds a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Sergent College at Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. John Fisher College of Rochester and received dance training at the Botsford School as well as music training at Dalcroze School in NYC. She has been the Senior Physical Therapist at University Health Services at the University of Rochester since 2000, the same year she established CHPT. Sue is also an adjunct professor at the Eastman School of Music (ESM), where she teaches the Keys to Healthy Music Class and is an Arts Leadership Mentor. Prior to opening CHPT, she was Director of Sports Therapy at University Sports Medicine/Strong Memorial Hospital, and held positions at the Center for Occupational Rehabilitation and the Pain Treatment Center at the University of Rochester, the Rochester City School District, Monroe II BOCES, United Cerebral Palsy Association Greater Rochester Area, and Park Ridge Hospital. Sue is an adjunct professor for Ithaca College Physical Therapy Graduate Studies and has been a clinical instructor for PT students for more than 20 years. She has presented workshops in injury prevention for the 2012 World Viola Congress, Hillsdale College, Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and the U of R's Day of Brass and often asked to share her expertise with studio classes at the ESM. This summer, Sue will present at the Performing Arts Music Association Conference along with her ESM Fellows. Sue presents dancer injury prevention workshops with CHPT's Dancer Wellness Initiative, and the Garth Fagan Dance Summer Movement Institute. As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, she is a regular presenter for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester (BCCR) and has presented at the JCC in Manhattan. In the community, Sue serves on the Advisory Board of the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, and received their Advocate Spirit Award in 2009. Additionally, she is a board member of Publick Musick, and is a volunteer at the Bethany House. Sue is active in tennis, Tai Chi and dance classes.

Thomas McGary DPT, MM is a doctor of physical therapy who blends his passions of music performance, research, and movement science to provide creative and effective care to musicians of all genres. Forced into early retirement in his own professional music career by an injury, Tom is driven to helping musical performers maximize their physical potential, from injury rehabilitation to performance enhancement.
Tom earned his doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) from Daemen College and holds a masters in music performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. As a double bassist, Tom played professionally as principal double bassist of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra (Ontario, Canada), was solo double bassist with the Canadian Chamber Ensemble, and played as a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with numerous regional orchestras in the United States and Canada. During 2004-06, Tom attend the Aspen Music Festival as a fellow. He had the fortune to collaborate with some of the finest soloists and conductors alive today. As a physical therapist, Tom works with Susanne Callan-Harris at her clinic, CHPT, in Rochester, NY. He also works at the University of Rochester, including the prestigious Eastman School of Music. He has presented research at the Schmitt Program on Integrative Brain Research Symposium, at the Performing Arts Medicine Association’s International Symposium, and has presented on wellness, fitness and, nutrition at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. |
Andrew Worden | MM earned his Master's Degree in Percussion Performance & Literature and the Arts Leadership Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in 2014. He is also the recipient of post-graduate internship funding for his role as UHS Health Promotion for Musicians Intern/Specialist during the 2014-2015 academic year. Drew is active as a performer, composer, and educator and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society (with a published article to his credit in Percussive Notes, September 2011) and a past-president of the Northern Arizona University Percussion Society. As part of his Arts Leadership Program Internship at Eastman, Drew's new found interest in performance enhancement and injury prevention paired with a desire to encourage healthy musicians, is one that deeply informs his own performance and teaching. The summer of 2014, Drew and his colleagues at UR Health presented to the performers and health care professionals in attendance at the Performing Arts Medicine Association 32nd Annual Symposium in Snowmass, Colorado. As a performer and composer, Drew loves collaborating with artists of all disciplines to cultivate meaningful experiences in his community. His most recent collaborations for the Rochester Fringe Festival were hailed as “stunning...Simply. Amazing.” and “so beautiful to behold that I found myself dreading its inevitable conclusion.” (Rochester CITY Newspaper). He has performed at the International Music Institute Darmstadt (Germany), the So Percussion Summer Institute at Princeton University, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.
